The Financial Planning Standards Board India (FPSB India) and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) recently hosted a boot camp for financial planning firms. This initiative aimed to support and mentor financial planning start-ups across India.
Focus on Strategic Planning
The event emphasised the importance of strategic planning, risk management, and contingency planning for financial planners. Over 300 delegates from various parts of India attended, gaining valuable insights from industry experts and academics.
Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, delivered the keynote address. Other notable speakers included Prof. M Jayadev, Faculty - Finance and Accounting, Dean – Administration & Chairperson, CCMRM IIM Bangalore; Prof. Jacob Joshy, Associate Professor at IIM Ahmedabad; and Mr Krishan Mishra, CEO of FPSB India.
Encouraging Financial Planning Start-Ups
Professor M Jayadev expressed his enthusiasm about collaborating with FPSB India. He stated, "It was a pleasure for us to join hands with FPSB India in organizing a boot camp for financial planning professionals. The objective was to encourage more CFP professionals to set up their own practice and fuel more start-ups in the area of financial planning."
Krishan Mishra also highlighted the importance of mentoring aspiring financial planners. He said, "There is need to mentor and support aspiring financial planning entrepreneurs in the country and today's boot camp gave that mission a head start."
Insights from Industry Experts
Retired Professor Prasanna Chandra from Bangalore provided insights into investor psychology. Arun Thukral, former MD & CEO of Axis Securities; Dilshad Billimoria, Founder & MD of Dilzer Consultants Pvt Ltd; and Yuva Raja, MD at BOHO Finserv Pvt Ltd also shared their expertise.
The event featured discussions on building consumer confidence, sustaining a practice, and mitigating risks. It was well-attended by CXOs from financial advisory firms, banks, wealth management firms, CFP professionals, and academia.
Building Long-Term Partnerships
Mishra expressed his gratitude towards IIM Bangalore for their collaboration. He added, "We look forward to building a longer-term partnership with IIM Bangalore and creating awareness about financial planning as a profession."
FPSB India is responsible for issuing the international CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification in India. This certification is known as CFP.
The boot camp marked a significant step towards fostering a culture of financial planning in the country. The collaboration between FPSB India and IIM Bangalore aims to continue supporting financial planners in establishing successful practices.
