As India sees a rise in entrepreneurial ambitions, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a game-changing programme designed to equip aspiring business leaders with the necessary skills to thrive. The new Bachelor of Arts in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (AMSME), set to begin in January 2025, is a step towards enhancing the entrepreneurial landscape of the nation.

Comprehensive Curriculum for Future Entrepreneurs
The BAMSME course is tailored to meet the growing demand for skilled entrepreneurs, providing a perfect blend of theoretical insights and practical experience. Spanning three years, with a requirement of 120 credits, the programme covers a wide array of topics essential for running a successful business in today's competitive environment. These topics include market analysis, strategic planning, sustainable business practices, and leadership development.
The course is part of the School of Vocational Education and Training at IGNOU, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning. The curriculum is designed not only to teach students the fundamentals of business but also to prepare them for the dynamic challenges that come with managing or establishing a business.
Flexibility to Suit Every Aspiring Entrepreneur
One of the most attractive aspects of this programme is its flexible learning model, leveraging Open and Distance Learning (ODL). This structure allows students from across India to study at their own pace, making it easier for working individuals or those in remote locations to pursue the course. The programme spans up to six years, ensuring ample time to grasp the diverse skills needed for entrepreneurship.
Admission to the BAMSME course requires students to have completed their 12th grade or equivalent, and the programme will be taught in English. This makes it accessible to a wide range of students across the country, furthering the cause of education and entrepreneurship.
Affordable and Accessible
The course offers great value for money, with an annual fee of Rs. 5,100, totaling Rs. 15,300 for the entire three-year programme. Given the scope of the knowledge imparted and the skills developed, this is a minimal investment for a lifetime of entrepreneurial success.
IGNOU's Contribution to India's MSME Sector
By launching the BAMSME course, IGNOU is playing a pivotal role in nurturing the country's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which is essential for the growth of India's economy. The course prepares students not only to run a business but also to contribute to the ever-expanding MSME sector, fostering innovation and job creation.
The BAMSME programme is designed with India's evolving entrepreneurial needs in mind, ensuring that students are equipped with both the knowledge and practical skills to succeed. With two admission cycles per year (January and July), IGNOU offers flexibility, making it easier for students to start their entrepreneurial journey.
