IGNOU January 2026 Re-registration Deadline Extended Till January 31

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the re-registration deadline for its January 2026 academic session for students enrolled in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes. Eligible learners can now complete their re-registration process until January 31, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline of January 15, 2026.

IGNOU January Re-registration Deadline Extended

This extension is intended to give students additional time to complete formalities related to continuing their courses without disruption. Re-registration is mandatory for existing students who wish to move to the next semester or academic year.

Who Needs to Re-Register?

  • Existing IGNOU learners enrolled in UG, PG, diploma, certificate and other programmes

  • Students studying through ODL (distance education) or online mode

  • Those who wish to continue their current programme into the next session

Students who fail to complete re-registration by the revised deadline may face issues in continuing their studies or accessing new term study materials and examinations.

How to Complete IGNOU Re-Registration

Students should follow these steps to complete the process:

  • Visit the official IGNOU Samarth portal at ignou.samarth.edu.in or through the IGNOU main website.

  • Log in using your Enrolment number and password.

  • Update personal details and select your courses for the upcoming session.

  • Pay the re-registration fee online.

  • Review and submit the form, then download and save the confirmation/receipt for your records.

The process must be completed online within the extended deadline to ensure uninterrupted continuation of programmes.

Why This Extension Matters

The university's decision to extend the deadline came in response to feedback from learners who needed more time to complete the re-registration steps. This is especially crucial for students balancing work, personal commitments, or facing technical challenges while applying online.

Re-registration directly affects a student's academic progression, including eligibility for term-end examinations and access to new study materials.

Key Points Students Should Know

  • You can re-register for both ODL and online programme sessions.

  • Ensure all required documents and details are correctly uploaded during the process.

  • Keep proof of payment and submission confirmation safe for future reference.

  • Don't wait until the last minute to avoid technical issues on the portal.

With the extension to January 31, 2026, students now have additional time to secure their enrolment and continue their study plans smoothly for the upcoming academic period.
