Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, has announced the scholarships for the Children of economically backward families.
On 26th January 2014, Republic Day, Prof. M.Aslam, VC, IGNOU, announced various initiatives to make IGNOU the leader in Open and Distance Education in the world.
IGNOU shall soon announce scholarships for the children of economically backward families. Efforts will also be made to make free education for the children of employees who wish to opt for IGNOU courses.
In addition, a Kendriya Vidyalaya School and a play ground for children of the IGNOU employees at the campus shall be set up, so that children need not have to travel too far to study in schools.
VC emphasized that with 153 academic programmes which are as per statutes of the university, the enrolment figures have been rising steadily which has been possible due to persistent efforts of the Regional Directors all over the country.
The Regional Directors have been visiting the areas in their regions personally, so that people may be encouraged to join IGNOU courses.
The Republic Day function was attended by all the three Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Prof. Sushma Yadav, Prof. P. Prakash and Registrar (Administration) Prof. S.V.S. Chaudhary and other academic, officers and staff of the university.
