The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is taking significant strides toward enhancing the well-being of its members by placing a renewed focus on work-life balance and stress management. Leading this initiative is Seema Gerotra, the Additional Director on Work-Life Balance and Stress Management, who heads a specialized group tasked with developing strategies to reduce stress and promote a healthier equilibrium between professional and personal life.

This progressive move reflects ICAI's acknowledgment of the growing need to safeguard the mental and physical well-being of professionals, which is key to both individual productivity and a sustainable quality of life.
Holistic Wellness Programs
ICAI is partnering with health organizations to introduce stress management programs, counseling services, and mental health support. These programs are designed to give chartered accountants the resources they need to cope with the demands of their profession. Additionally, ICAI is promoting flexible work arrangements in collaboration with industry partners, offering options such as remote working, flexible hours, and wellness initiatives. By implementing these changes, ICAI aims to help professionals achieve a better balance between their work and personal lives.
Comprehensive Support Systems
ICAI has also set up a Grievance Redressal Cell to address the concerns of its members, students, and employees. This cell is part of a broader effort to make the resolution process more empathetic and systematic. Soon, ICAI will launch a counseling help desk through its National Call Centre, offering specialized support for members struggling with stress and work-life balance issues. This initiative also includes the creation of peer support networks, allowing members to exchange advice, share experiences, and collaborate on overcoming stress-related challenges.
Wellness Activities and Events
As part of its wellness initiatives, ICAI is organizing various health-oriented activities to promote mental and physical well-being among its members. These activities include health awareness camps, motivational conferences, yoga sessions, and webinars on stress management. Additionally, ICAI hosts physical events such as walkathons and marathons, which help foster a sense of community and encourage members to maintain healthy habits in their day-to-day lives.
Encouraging Organizational Change
ICAI is also calling on organizations to prioritize the well-being of their employees. ICAI President Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal emphasized that employee wellness is crucial for organizational success. "Employees are the backbone of any organization, and their well-being is essential to its long-term success," he said. Agarwal encouraged companies to adopt balanced work policies that promote mental and physical health, stating that a healthy workforce is more productive, resilient, and innovative.
ICAI's proactive approach aims to inspire other organizations to adopt similar practices. In addition to providing counseling and support systems, ICAI will continue offering workshops, webinars, and campaigns focused on mindfulness, emotional wellness, and physical activity. These efforts ensure that professionals can meet their work commitments while maintaining their personal well-being.
By taking these important steps, ICAI is not only supporting its members but also leading the charge for healthier, more balanced work environments across the industry. The institute's focus on holistic wellness, flexible work models, and peer support systems marks a major shift toward ensuring that its members thrive in all aspects of their lives.
