How Long Will the Rainy Spell Last in Bengaluru?

Bengaluru residents can finally look forward to some relief from the sweltering heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light to moderate rain showers with thunder and lightning on Wednesday. This much-needed shift towards cooler weather is expected to last throughout the week, bringing a refreshing change to the city famously known as India's Silicon Valley.

How Long Will Bengaluru's Rainy Spell Last?

Relief from Rising Temperatures

Bengaluru has been experiencing fluctuating temperatures, with daytime highs soaring up to 36 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows hovering around 20 degrees Celsius. However, with the expected showers on Thursday, temperatures are set to drop, with the maximum expected to stay around 30 degrees Celsius.

This sudden change in weather patterns is attributed to a trough extending from South Chhattisgarh to North Interior Tamil Nadu, which is causing rainfall activity across the region. The system is expected to bring moderate rains, thunderstorms, and gusty winds ranging from 40-50 kmph across South Karnataka.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Karnataka

Beyond Bengaluru, several key districts in South Karnataka-including Mysuru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Chamarajanagar-are likely to witness moderate showers and thunderstorms. Additionally, heavy rainfall and hailstorms are predicted in select areas of Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru on April 3.

Meanwhile, North Karnataka is set to experience intense rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds in the coming days. Areas like Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Bagalkote, and Vijayapura are all expected to receive heavy downpours and thunderstorms on April 2 and 3, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 kmph.

Even coastal districts, including Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada, are preparing for heavy showers, with isolated hailstorms possible.

Precautionary Measures & Weather Advisory

The IMD has issued a cautionary advisory regarding possible disruptions due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and thunderstorms.

Despite the expected rainfall, some isolated areas might still experience dry weather, but overall, most of Karnataka is set to witness widespread precipitation-a welcome respite from the ongoing heatwave conditions.

On April 2, strong surface winds are forecasted across multiple districts, making weather conditions unpredictable. Bengaluru's skies will remain partly cloudy today, setting the stage for the anticipated rainfall and cooler temperatures.
