How AI Can Help in Identifying Student Strengths and Weaknesses In Modern Education

By Saina Mohanty

It is essential to identify both strengths and weaknesses to create efficient learning environments for students. Traditional assessments typically provide minimal detail with regards to student performance.

How AI Can Help in Identifying Student Strengths

However, AI provides powerful new analyses of student data concerning their behavioural activities, learning patterns, and performance on assessment tasks. Utilising this type of technology gives teachers a much clearer and better picture of each student's academic needs.

Analyzing learning behaviors using data and AI

AI will be able to monitor student engagement with learning materials over time, i.e., monitoring data about students' activity patterns, response times, quality of responses and consistency of responses. This will allow educators to see easily not only what students know and what areas they may be struggling with but also to have a broader view of students' progress over time. By looking beyond the traditional methods of assessment, i.e., testing, educators will have access to more detailed and meaningful information about students' learning. Moreover, they will be better equipped to help improve their understanding of the subject matter by identifying specific areas in which they need additional support.

Feedback and adaptive learning tailored for the individual's growth

AI-based solutions utilize data to determine student accomplishments enabling tailored feedback. Furthermore, utilizing AI can assist struggling students by providing them with further practice materials or alternative methods to learn information that may have been difficult for them to understand. Additionally, it allows for students who have successfully learned the material to continue to be challenged with more difficult tasks. Providing different levels of difficulties in learning leads to improved self-confidence among students who are addressing areas that need support or they are weak at, but also allowing them to develop their strengths.

Using AI to identify learning difficulties and loop holes in academic performance

AI can identify and diagnose the potential causes of learning barriers to educators much sooner than the typical response to learning inability. By identifying anomalies in behavior, such as increased number of mistakes and reduction in interest, an educator is alerted before the issue has reached a critical level. When an educator intervenes early, students receive appropriate assistance at an early stage of their academic development so that academic pressure can be alleviated and any potential for long-lasting learning deficits is minimized. By addressing these barriers at the earliest levels possible, both the educator(s) and students may have a better opportunity for success. They can do so through a greater level of inclusion and responsiveness in their educational settings.

Conclusion

Through the application of artificial intelligence, we could be altering the way in which we ascertain student strengths and weaknesses. AI can facilitate the creation of an individualised learning experience, built on ongoing assessment and collecting data to support the learning process. With the appropriate degree of human oversight, artificial intelligence could enhance the process of education by making it more inclusive and responsive to the needs of students.
