New Phase In Agricultural Studies Unveiled By HITS With PMKSY Workshop

HITS hosted a significant workshop on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) in Paddy Cultivation, aiming to enhance agricultural practices. The workshop, sponsored by the ICSSR, featured experts from various sectors and focused on advanced irrigation techniques to ensure food security.

Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) has taken a significant step towards enhancing agricultural practices in India by hosting a workshop on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) in Paddy Cultivation. Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research Project (ICSSR), the event congreg experts from various sectors at the Department of Economics, School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences. The workshop saw participation from specialists across eight academic and research institutions, local farmers, project coordinators from states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, as well as students.

The workshop featured talks from esteemed speakers such as Prof. S. Rajendran from Gandhigram Rural University, Dr. R. Gopinath from M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, and Thiru. L. Mayakrishnan from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Tamil Nadu. The discussions centered around the critical need for advanced irrigation techniques in paddy cultivation to ensure food security in India, under the aegis of PMKSY.

HITS CHennai Hosts PMKSY Agricultural Workshop

Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, in his Presidential address, highlighted the indispensable role of agriculture in the nation's economy and the urgency of adopting improved irrigation methods to cater to the increasing population's needs. Pro Vice Chancellor of HITS, R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, pointed out the vital importance of water conservation amidst the challenges posed by rapid urbanization.

Dr. Sabarisakthi, the organizing secretary and project director at HITS, committed to integrating the insights from the workshop into a comprehensive report for ICSSR. This initiative underscores HITS's dedication to agricultural research and its endeavor to contribute constructively to the sector. Marking the launch of its inaugural programme in agricultural studies, the workshop signifies a pivotal move by HITS to engage more deeply in agricultural initiatives.
