Himachal Pradesh to Introduce Three-Time Attendance System Across 150 CBSE Government Schools
The Himachal Pradesh government is set to implement a three-stage attendance monitoring system in 150 government schools affiliated with the CBSE. The initiative was announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu following a review meeting with the Education Department in Shimla, with the aim of enhancing attendance tracking and strengthening school administration.
The 150 CBSE government schools in Himachal Pradesh will adopt a new attendance monitoring mechanism under which attendance will be marked three times a day. Records will be taken at the start of the school day, around lunchtime and again when students and teachers leave the premises. The initiative is expected to ensure more consistent attendance tracking across the schools covered by the state government's programme.
Three-Time Attendance System in CBSE Schools
The proposed attendance mechanism will record attendance at three key points during the school day. The morning entry will establish the initial attendance, while another record will be taken during the lunch break. A final attendance check will be conducted at the time of leaving school.
The move is aimed at improving attendance monitoring and ensuring greater accountability among students and staff in the state's CBSE government schools.
Teacher Dress Code From October 1, 2026
The Himachal Pradesh government will also introduce a separate dress code for teachers and students in the 150 CBSE government schools.
The teacher dress code will become mandatory from October 1, 2026. To support teachers in purchasing the prescribed attire, the state government will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 to each teacher.
A decision regarding the school uniform for students is expected to be taken within the next week, according to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
1,200 Teachers Appointed for CBSE Schools
The state government has also appointed around 1,200 teachers for the CBSE government schools covered under the initiative. The appointments are part of efforts to strengthen teaching resources and improve the quality of education in these institutions.
The government is implementing several measures to upgrade government schools and bring them in line with CBSE standards.
Rs. 80 Crore Allocated for School Improvements
The Himachal Pradesh government has allocated Rs. 80 crore for improvements in the selected government schools. The funds are intended to support infrastructure development and other requirements associated with upgrading the schools.
With the introduction of the three-time attendance system, teacher dress code, additional teaching staff and infrastructure investment, the state government aims to improve the overall functioning and learning environment of its CBSE government schools.
What the New Measures Mean for Schools
The three-time attendance system will provide schools with attendance records at multiple points during the day, while the dress code is intended to establish a uniform professional standard for teachers and students.
The 150 CBSE government schools will therefore see several administrative and infrastructure-related changes during the academic year. Students, teachers and school authorities are expected to follow the new guidelines once the respective measures come into effect.
