Due to the effect of the cyclonic circulation across the Indian Ocean and Southwest Bay of Bengal off the southern Sri Lanka coast, heavy rain pummelling southern regions of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, including Thirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi. Because to the rain, schools and institutions in Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi districts have been closed on Monday, December 18.

As heavy rain continued in Thoothukudi, a railway tube in Kovilpatti became flooded, according to news agency ANI. Following severe rain in Kanniyakumari, numerous streets in Nagercoil became flooded.Collectors in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi have recommended people to avoid the Tamirabharani River because water discharge has increased due to increased inflow. Other reservoirs' water levels have also risen. In reaction to the weather, four National Disaster reaction Force (NDRF) teams with rescue equipment have been dispatched to Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari.
Due to heavy rains, Anna University has postponed the semester examinations scheduled for today in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Virudhunagar districts. Similarly, the exams scheduled as part of the distance education programme were postponed.
