Haryana PM SHRI Schools to Introduce 10-Day Bagless Learning Programme From 2026-27
Haryana is set to launch a 10-day bagless learning programme in 250 PM SHRI government schools from the 2026-27 academic session. The initiative aims to move learning beyond conventional textbooks by giving students opportunities to explore practical skills, local occupations and emerging technologies.
The programme has been designed in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP), with a focus on experiential and vocational learning. During the bagless days, students will participate in activities according to their interests and interact with local artisans, farmers, professionals and industry representatives.
551 Skill Sectors Identified Across PM SHRI Schools
A total of 551 skill sectors have been identified for the 250 participating schools. Currently, training is being offered in 14 sectors across 183 schools, while the remaining schools will gradually be brought under the programme.
For Class 6 students, three projects will be undertaken during the academic year. These projects will be linked to the skills and activities covered during the bagless learning period, allowing students to apply classroom concepts in practical settings.
Outdoor and Indoor Activities Planned
The programme will include both outdoor visits and activities within schools. Students may visit farms, nurseries, solar energy parks, biodiversity parks, industries, training centres, panchayats, vegetable markets, railway stations, police stations, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and historical or cultural locations.
Students may also interact directly with farmers, potters, carpenters and other local artisans to understand traditional occupations and the skills associated with them.
Indoor sessions will cover areas such as agriculture, soil and water conservation, animal husbandry, food processing, handicrafts, pottery, carpentry, tailoring and weaving. Along with traditional skills, students will also get exposure to new technologies and emerging fields.
Haryana Approves Rs 9.3 Crore Budget
The Haryana education department has approved a Rs 9.3 crore budget for implementing the programme across the 250 PM SHRI schools. Of the total allocation, Rs 3.09 crore has been earmarked for transportation and Rs 1.8 crore for food and other arrangements.
Another Rs 1.4 crore will support educational and guidance activities, while Rs 37.5 lakh has been allocated for tools and equipment. A further Rs 22 lakh has been provided for printing and related materials.
The bagless learning initiative is expected to help students identify their interests, gain practical exposure and understand different career possibilities. By connecting classroom education with real-world experiences, Haryana aims to strengthen vocational awareness and skill-based learning among school students.
