With the delays caused by the state education board SSC, students of class X, who will appear for their 1st board exam starting 3rd March, 2014 have more things to worry about than just the exam as a whole.
Schools at several cities are awaiting to receive the exam pre-list from the board. A 'pre-list' containing personal details of students as it would appear in their official documents such as marksheet later, is sent to each school. This is the last chance for the students to rectify the errors. Those schools which have received their pre-list from the board have complained that there were many errors in it.
We got the pre-lists over a month later than usual and there were several errors. Photographs are also missing," said Vilas Parab, Principal of Balmohan Vidyamandir , Dadar.
"They're obviously worried about preparation and these delays are making matters worse. Many are coming to school even during preparatory leave to check what's happening," said Rajesh Pandya, a teacher at Fatima Devi High School in Malad.
The board has permitted schools conduct internal exams without hall tickets, following the complaints. A Principal of a suburban school which is yet to receive the pre-list said, "Every year, things go about normally. This is the first time there has been a problem. Schools were asked to resend the data which was lost due to some technical glitch but most have not done so. There will be a major goof-up in marking if there is a mismatch in entering seat numbers days after internal exams are conducted."
Parents are worried as well. Niranjan Shah, an Andheri resident said, "Two years ago, when my elder daughter was in the SSC, we received hall tickets almost a month before the exam."
Students can expect hall tickets only during the week before the board exam.
