Gurugram Schools Closed Due to Declining Air Quality

Global air pollution is a growing concern that has necessitated immediate intervention worldwide. In Gurugram, India, declining air quality levels have had a severe impact on the education sector, leading to school closures and suspension of classes up to grade 5. This urgent measure was implemented to keep students safe from the adverse health effects of air pollution.

Gurugram Schools Closed Due to Pollution

Offline classes will be suspended until additional orders are issued. "The situation will be continuously monitored, and decisions regarding the resumption of offline classes will be made based on the prevailing air quality conditions and government directives," the statement read.

The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI), which is reported at 4 p.m. every day, worsened from 415 on Saturday to 454 on Sunday, leading the Centre to implement all emergency measures mandated under Stage IV of its air pollution control plan known as the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Poor air quality can have severe health implications, particularly for children. The presence of harmful pollutants in the air can cause short and long-term health issues, ranging from respiratory infections to more severe cases of asthma. The hazardous air quality in Gurugram has forced schools to take preventive measures by closing their premises and suspending classes up to 5.

The schools in Gurugram have been prompt in their reaction to protect their students from the worsening air quality. Recognizing the harm that this could potentially cause to the health of the students, they decided to close the schools. All schools have suspended classes up to grade 5 until further notice. This is a significant move considering that these are formative years for children, and any disruption in their educational process may have long-term effects.
