Government to set up state university for Tripura

Agartala, Jan 01: The Tripura Government would set up a separate university for the state besides the existing central university, a minister said. We have prepared the State University bill to establish a state university.

It would be tabled at the meeting of the council of ministers to be held on January 7 for its finalization.

The same bill would be placed in the winter session of the state assembly beginning in February, and if passed, the university would be set up, State Higher Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters.

He said, if everything went in the right direction, the academic session might start by July. Chakraborty said all infrastructure for setting up the university was ready and added that the varsity would be started initially taking four colleges of the capital under its affiliation.

To a question, he said there was no conflict between the Tripura Central University and the proposed state university, and there would be no problem regarding giving affiliations to the colleges.
