GATE 2027 Registration Date Extended: Apply Till October 5

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has extended the registration deadline for GATE 2027. Candidates who have not yet completed their application for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 can now submit the form with a late fee until October 5, 2026 through the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

Candidates should complete the application within the extended deadline and check all details carefully before final submission.

GATE 2027 Registration: Important Dates

The revised schedule released by IIT Madras includes the extended registration deadline and the subsequent application rectification window.

GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who are currently studying in the third year or higher of an undergraduate degree programme, or who have completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, are eligible to appear for GATE 2027.

Candidates who have obtained or are pursuing their qualifying degree outside India are also eligible, provided they are in the third or higher year or have completed a bachelor's degree of at least three years' duration in an eligible discipline. There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts for GATE.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

Candidates registering during the extended period will have to pay the higher application fee.

The application fee is non-refundable, except in cases of duplicate transactions where a refund may be processed after valid proof is submitted.

GATE 2027 Test Papers and Exam Date

GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 test papers. Candidates can appear for one or up to two papers, provided the selected combination is among those permitted by IIT Madras.

The examination will be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027, in forenoon and afternoon sessions. The GATE 2027 website also states that the Robotics and Automation (RA) paper has been introduced as a new test paper.

How to Apply for IIT GATE 2027?

Candidates can apply online by following these steps:

1. Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

2. Open the GATE 2027 application portal.

3. Register using the required DigiLocker-linked details.

4. Enter personal, academic and examination information.

5. Select the GATE paper or permitted two-paper combination.

6. Upload the required documents and complete the application details.

7. Pay the applicable fee.

8. Review the form and submit the application.

9. Download and save the confirmation page.

IIT Madras has also advised candidates not to delete the DigiLocker account used for GATE 2027 registration, as future communication will be linked to that account. Candidates using an unverified DigiLocker account can continue the application by selecting the default ID proof option, subject to post-registration document scrutiny.

Candidates who have not yet registered should complete the GATE 2027 application by October 5, 2026, with the applicable extended-period fee, and monitor the official website for further updates.
