GATE 2027 Registration Window Closing Tomorrow: Check Last Date, Fee and Exam Details

The GATE 2027 regular registration window is set to close tomorrow, September 27, 2026. Candidates who wish to appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 must complete their applications through the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, before the regular registration deadline. The registration deadline has been revised earlier by the organising institute, IIT Madras.

GATE 2027 Registration Window Closing Tomorrow

Candidates who miss the regular deadline will still be able to submit applications during the extended registration period until October 5, 2026, subject to payment of the applicable extended-period fee.

The official GATE 2027 website states that all dates are subject to change.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

For candidates applying for one paper, the regular application fee is ₹1,000 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates, while the fee for other candidates is ₹2,000. The fee increases during the extended registration period.

Candidates opting for two papers have to pay the corresponding two-paper fee.

GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who are currently studying in the third year or higher of an undergraduate programme, or who have completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, are eligible for GATE 2027. There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts.

Candidates can apply for one or two GATE test papers, with a second paper permitted only through the combinations specified by the organising institute. GATE 2027 has 30 test papers, including the newly introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) paper.

GATE 2027 DigiLocker Update

IIT Madras has clarified that candidates can proceed with registration using an unverified DigiLocker account by selecting the default ID proof option during application. Such applications will be scrutinised after the registration deadline, and original documents will be verified at the examination hall. Candidates have also been advised not to delete the DigiLocker account used for registration after submitting the application and paying the fee.

GATE 2027 Exam Date and Pattern

The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The examination will be held in computer-based test (CBT) mode. Each paper will carry 100 marks and will include General Aptitude along with questions based on the candidate's selected subject. The question types include MCQ, MSQ and NAT.

Candidates who have not yet completed their application should submit the form by September 27, 2026 to avoid the additional extended-period fee. After registration closes, the application rectification window will be available from October 14 to 21, 2026.
