GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a systemised assessment which is used while deciding a management aspirant's admission into advance study programmes such as business and management schools (like MBA).


GMAT comes under the direction of Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). US-based Pearson VUE , develops and administers the test. US-based Pearson VUE is a non-profit organisation of graduate business schools across the world.

For most of the MBA programmes in the US, Canada and other parts of the world, require GMAT to be taken by the applicant. Nearly 900 schools of management give admissions in the MBA programme based on GMAT scores.
GMAT is conducted via computer.

The test consists of 3 main sections:

* Analytical writing
* Quantitative reasoning
* Verbal reasoning

Analytical Writing Assessment Section: Duration 30 minutes. It consists of 2 essay topics which are, Analysis of an Issue and Analysis of an Argument.
There will be a 10 minutes break after analytical writing section.

Quantitative Section: Duration 75 minutes. It contains 37 multiple-choice questions, which are of the 2 types; Data Sufficiency or Problem Solving. 24 questions belong to problem solving and 13 questions belong to data sufficiency.

The basics about GMAT

Verbal Section: Duration 75 minutes. It contains 41 multiple-choice questions, which are of the 3 types; Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning and Sentence Correction. 13 questions belong to Reading Comprehension, 14 questions belong to critical reasoning and 15 questions belong to sentence correction.

Each year the areas of contents remain same, however, particular questions vary.

Eligibility Criteria for GMAT:
There is no restriction based on age or qualification. The test score is valid for 5 years. Some universities accept scores that are 5 years old, however, it is better to provide the universities with scores that are most recent like 2 years old incase there isn't a score for the year of application.

Note: A valid passport is mandatory to register for GMAT in India. Other identity cards like DL, PAN card , voter id will not be accepted. Ensure you have the passport with you before applying.
