Empowering Women in Tech: AICTE's Gen AI Learning Challenge Set to Transform Careers

In a major initiative to boost women's presence in the tech sector, the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has joined forces with SAWiT (South Asian Women in Tech) and GUVI. This collaboration aims to engage over 1.6 million women students from more than 8,200 technical colleges across India, with a focus on Generative AI (Gen AI) skills.

Empowering Women in Tech: AICTE's Gen AI Learning

On September 21, SAWiT.AI will launch a women-only Gen AI learning challenge designed to train 500,000 women. This program provides free, unrestricted online access to students nationwide, intending to equip 10 million women with Gen AI skills to advance their careers in the evolving tech landscape.

Empowering Women through Technology:

The AICTE-SAWiT.AI partnership offers several benefits. Students will learn Gen AI skills in both English and six Indian languages, making the course accessible and comprehensive. Completing the 15-hour Gen AI course, which includes Python, will earn students one academic credit, enhancing institutional curricula.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the SAWiT hackathon in October 2024, where they can compete for recognition and prizes. Participants are encouraged to join the SAWiT network, which supports professional success and entrepreneurship.

Aligning with National Education Policy:

AICTE, part of the Department of Higher Education, plays a pivotal role in setting and maintaining technical education standards across India. This partnership addresses the growing need for future-ready education by incorporating Gen AI training into the curriculum.

The initiative supports the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to strengthen the skilling ecosystem through the National Credit Framework and the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC).

Driving Gender Equality and Technological Innovation:

"This partnership is a significant advancement in making AI education accessible to everyone," said an official release. "It promotes gender equality and drives technological innovation, positioning India to leverage a $1.3 trillion GDP opportunity and improve its economic complexity index rankings."

The initiative not only focuses on skill development but also aims to create a supportive environment for women in technology. By offering these opportunities, it seeks to bridge gender gaps in tech fields and foster inclusive growth.

The AICTE and SAWiT.AI collaboration represents a progressive approach to integrating advanced technologies into educational frameworks, ensuring that women are well-prepared with essential skills for future job markets. This effort is anticipated to have long-lasting positive effects on individual careers and the broader economy by nurturing a diverse and skilled workforce ready to meet emerging technological challenges.
