Five New Eklavya Model Schools To Open In Tripura For Tribal Students

In Tripura, the upcoming academic session will witness the inauguration of five additional Eklavya Model Residential Schools, designed exclusively for tribal students. This initiative falls under the guidance of the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), aiming to enhance educational opportunities for tribal communities. With an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore for each school's establishment, this development represents a significant investment in the region's educational infrastructure.

New Eklavya Schools To Boost Tribal Education In Tripura

Currently, Tripura hosts six operational Eklavya Model Residential Schools, with the central government sanctioning a total of 21 for the state. This expansion underscores a commitment to improving access to quality education for tribal students in northeastern India. The schools, situated in tribal-dominated areas like Rupaicherri, Karbook, Padmabil, Dumburnagar, and Gabardi, reflect a targeted approach to address educational disparities.

Enhancing Tribal Education in Tripura

Subhasish Das, the director of the Tribal Welfare Department, shared insights with PTI about the new schools. He highlighted that construction for five schools has been completed, setting the stage for their operational commencement. The admission process for these institutions is set to begin in June, with selections based on entrance test outcomes. This strategic move aims to streamline access to education for tribal students, emphasizing merit and potential.

The curriculum at Eklavya Model Residential Schools adheres to the CBSE framework, covering classes 6 through 12. This ensures a standardized, high-quality academic program across all institutions. Moreover, these schools boast an intake capacity of 480 students each, demonstrating the scale of this educational initiative. Recruitment of teaching and ancillary staff is managed by NESTS, ensuring that each school is equipped with skilled professionals to foster a conducive learning environment.

Supporting Tribal Students with Modern Facilities

In addition to academic programs, the state government is committed to providing comprehensive support facilities to enhance the learning experience. Initiatives include the installation of solar lighting and the introduction of smart classes, reflecting an integration of sustainable and modern educational technologies. Such facilities are poised to significantly benefit tribal students from rural areas, offering them a competitive and progressive educational platform.

This expansion of Eklavya Model Residential Schools in Tripura marks a pivotal step towards addressing educational imbalances within tribal communities. By offering a curriculum rooted in CBSE standards and ensuring access to modern facilities, these schools aim to foster an environment where tribal students can thrive academically. This initiative not only enhances the educational landscape in Tripura but also serves as a model for similar efforts across India, highlighting the importance of targeted educational programs for underrepresented communities.
