Sanju Samson is a name that resonates with cricket enthusiasts across India. Known for his elegant stroke play, fearless approach, and leadership skills, he has established himself as a key player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a promising talent for the Indian national team. While cricket fans are well aware of his on-field exploits, many wonder about his educational background and how he balanced academics with his sporting ambitions.

Early Life and Schooling
Sanju Viswanath Samson was born on November 11, 1994, in Pulluvila, a coastal village in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. His father, Viswanath Samson, was a police officer in the Delhi Police Department, and his mother, Lily Samson, was a homemaker. Sanju's family initially lived in Delhi, where he spent his early childhood before returning to Kerala.
Sanju began his schooling at Rosary Senior Secondary School, Delhi, where he was introduced to structured education. However, his father's transfer led the family to settle in Kerala, where he continued his studies at St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram.
Introduction to Cricket: The Balancing Act Begins
Like many aspiring cricketers, Sanju had to find a way to balance his academics with his growing passion for cricket. From a young age, he exhibited remarkable cricketing talent, representing Kerala in various age-group tournaments. As he started making waves in domestic cricket, managing studies and intense training schedules became challenging. However, his discipline and commitment allowed him to excel in both areas.
Higher Education: Bachelor's Degree in English Literature
Despite his increasing cricketing commitments, Sanju did not compromise on his education. He pursued a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. His decision to study literature is interesting, considering his profession in sports. Literature offers a broad perspective on life, communication skills, and analytical thinking, all of which can be beneficial for a sportsperson, especially one in the limelight like Sanju.
During his college years, Sanju was already making headlines in cricket. By the time he graduated, he had already represented Kerala in Ranji Trophy, played in the U-19 Indian team, and made his IPL debut. Balancing the pressures of academics and cricket was not easy, but he managed to complete his degree while also focusing on his career in professional sports.
Cricket Over Academics: The Career Leap
While Sanju Samson valued education, his heart was always on the cricket field. His breakthrough moment came in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) when he played for the Rajasthan Royals. His performance earned him the Emerging Player of the Year award, and from there, his career took off.
He soon became a regular in Kerala's domestic team, earning a place in the India A squad and making his international debut in 2015. With increasing commitments to the game, his focus naturally shifted towards cricket. However, the discipline and skills he acquired from his education continued to play a role in his personality and approach to the game.
