Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' will be holding a meeting with State Education Secretaries on May 17 to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on education. The Minister is likely to take a call regarding the pending CBSE Class 12 board exams which were deferred in April due to the surge in Coronavirus cases in the country. Nishank will interact with the secretaries in a virtual meeting and review the online education and implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

Highlights of Meeting With Education Secretaries

Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' tweeted, "I will be virtually attending the meeting with State Education Secretaries on 17th May, 2021 at 11 AM. The objective of the meeting is to review the #COVID situation, online education, and work around NEP."

The meeting with the state education secretaries on May 17 is likely to be the first virtual meeting of Education Minister Nishank after the outbreak of Coronavirus second wave. The sources suggest that the Minister will be reviewing the impact of the COVID-19 situation on education. He is likely to provide a few inputs regarding how students can continue their online education during the pandemic. Nishank will also enquire about the implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

Earlier, the Union government has decided to cancel the CBSE Class 10 board exams and postponed the CBSE Class 12 board exams in the wake of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board has not taken any decision yet regarding CBSE Class 12 board exams 2021. The education ministry has revealed that the decision of Class 12th exams will be in the last week of May.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also asked all Universities of Central and State to postpone the offline exams till the end of May to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
