E-commerce companies such as Flipkart, Zomato, and Amazon are starts to recruit women for night shifts

India's top ecommerce and delivery firms, including Flipkart, Zomato, and Amazon, are spearheading efforts to increase gender diversity in their blue-collar workforce by recruiting women for night shifts.

E-commerce companies starts to recruit women

To achieve this goal, these companies are rolling out new policies aimed at improving the safety and well-being of all employees. Despite facing challenges such as societal norms, transportation issues, and safety concerns associated with working at night, e-commerce and delivery companies are implementing various measures to create supportive work environments for women.

These initiatives include comprehensive training programs covering topics such as road safety, fire safety, self-defense, prevention of sexual harassment (POSH), and gender sensitivity. Additionally, they are providing safe transportation options, ensuring adequate physical infrastructure, establishing night canteens, and employing constant monitoring through CCTV cameras.

According to CIEL HR Services, women currently make up approximately 10% of the workforce in e-commerce companies. However, this number is projected to experience a significant rise. "We anticipate a 25% increase in the size of the female workforce in this industry by 2024," remarked Aditya Mishra, Chief Executive of CIEL HR Services. This expected expansion highlights the sector's dedication to cultivating a workplace that embraces diversity and inclusion.

The endeavor of e-commerce and delivery firms to increase the representation of women in their night shift workforce serves dual purposes: fostering diversity and harnessing the untapped potential of women in blue-collar roles. By confronting challenges directly and introducing thorough safety protocols, these companies are establishing a model for the industry. With the night economy on the rise, the integration of women into these positions is poised to make a substantial contribution to the sector's expansion and vitality.
