DUSU Election 2024 Countdown Begins: Who Will Lead Delhi University?

The long-awaited vote tally for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections commenced this Monday at the North Campus, nearly two months after voting concluded. The counting process had been postponed due to a Delhi High Court order, following complaints about electoral process violations, particularly defacement issues with widespread campaign materials across campus.

DUSU Election 2024 Countdown Begins

Originally scheduled for September 28, the elections saw fierce competition for key DUSU positions, including President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary. A total of 21 candidates from prominent student political groups, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students' Union of India (NSUI), and the Left coalition (AISA and SFI), contested these roles.

The race for President was particularly intense, with eight contenders, including Rishabh Chaudhary (ABVP), Rounak Khatri (NSUI), and Saavy Gupta (AISA). The Vice President role had five candidates, including Bhanu Pratap Singh (ABVP) and Yash Nandal (NSUI). The Secretary and Joint Secretary positions featured four candidates each, with notable contenders like Mitravinda Karanwal (ABVP) and Anamika K (SFI).With tension running high over the DUSU election results, the Delhi Police have gone all out with strict security measures to ensure a smooth counting process. A three-layer barricading system surrounds the counting center, while the University of Delhi has enacted tough rules to control celebrations once the results are announced. Candidates are now required to sign affidavits, promising to abide by these regulations.

As the results draw near, the stakes couldn't be higher. Will the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) continue its reign over DUSU, or will a new wave of change shake up the political landscape? Today's outcome will not only determine the next student leaders but could be a turning point that reshapes the power dynamics at Delhi University for years to come.
