New Delhi, Jan 6: Four teachers of Delhi University will be heading to Scotland in a few months from now to undergo training on digital literacy at Edinburgh College with a workshop set to be held here to draw up the shortlist for the trip.

"With an aim to foster the components of digital literacy in classroom teaching and in real university settings, we will be sending four teachers to Scotland for a course in 'Digital Literacy'," CS Dubey, Director of DU's Campus of Open Learning (COL), told PTI.

Ahead of that, the varsity is inviting applications from teachers for a two-day workshop here on Digital Literacy and Innovation for Tomorrow's Education (DLITE) during which it would shortlist the four nominees who would be sent to Scotland. [DU to send teachers abroad for Masters courses]

"Around 50 teachers will be selected for the workshop on the basis of their applications. The workshop will be held in Delhi from Feb. 17-19. Four candidates will then be selected as 'Digital Literacy Champions' to undertake staff development for a week-long workshop in Scotland," he said.

"The training programme at Edinburgh has been designed to introduce a range of different digital tools, productivity software and digital communication methods. It will introduce educational practitioners to the concepts and contexts of digital literacy and support them in developing their practice," added Dubey.

The 'Digital Literacy Champions', upon their return from training in Scotland, will assist DU teachers in delivering the course to students at the Campus of Open Learning. [DU changes nomenclature of 12 degrees]

The course will cover areas such as planning, e-pedagogical issues, sharing of professional practices, encouraging teachers to be enterprising with their ideas and facilitating aspects of global citizenship within the curriculum.

"A blended learning approach will be used to deliver the course, which combines and aligns learning undertaken in face- to-face sessions with learning opportunities created online using Webinar technology and Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle)," he said.
