The University of Delhi (DU) has rolled out an exciting new policy allowing students to pursue two degree programs at the same time. Under this initiative, one degree must be completed through regular classes at a DU college or department, while the second can be earned through open and distance learning (ODL) via the School of Open Learning. This offers a flexible academic path, letting students broaden their knowledge and skills by simultaneously pursuing diverse educational qualifications.

However, there are important guidelines to follow. Students cannot enroll in two identical academic programs, such as BCom (Hons) and BCom (Pass), even if one is through ODL. This rule encourages students to diversify their learning experience. Furthermore, this policy applies to all DU students, except those pursuing a PhD, providing a wide range of learners the chance to benefit from this opportunity.
To ensure a smooth experience, students must independently meet all academic obligations for both degrees. This includes attending lectures, submitting assignments, and passing exams specific to each program. DU has also introduced provisions to avoid redundancy, ensuring that students don't have to complete the same mandatory courses twice. For instance, if a student first enrolls in a regular program, they must complete its compulsory courses, and vice versa for an ODL program.
For courses like Environmental Science (EVS) or Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) required by both degrees, DU offers alternatives to prevent repetition. Students can select different language electives or opt for Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) in their second program, maintaining a rich and varied learning experience.
In situations where a student is enrolled in two undergraduate degrees, DU allows them to choose courses from the open generic elective (GE) pool instead of repeating a similar course. This promotes a more dynamic academic journey, with the final year requiring unique research or project work for each program to ensure depth of knowledge in both fields.
This new policy by DU empowers students to explore multiple disciplines at once, offering them a flexible and innovative academic pathway. With careful planning, students can successfully manage dual degrees, enhancing their qualifications and expanding their future career options.
