DPS Warangal hosts Eye Donation Awareness event as part of National Campaign

On 27 August 2024, In support of the 39th National Eye Donation Awareness Campaign, Delhi Public School (DPS) Warangal -voted among the top 10 CBSE residential schools in the country- organized an impactful event aimed at educating its 9th and 10th-grade students about the importance of eye donation. The event was graced by esteemed medical professionals Dr. Bharat Kumar, Superintendent and Head of Ophthalmology, and Dr. C. Aparna Reddy, Ophthalmology Surgeon. In an informative session, the guest spoke about the significance of eye donation and the progress of India in combating diseases related to the cornea.

During the session, Dr. Bharat Kumar and Dr. C. Aparna Reddy gave students an in-depth understanding of eye donation procedures, the impact of corneal diseases, and the life-changing potential of eye transplants. They interacted with the students by answering various queries related to eye surgery and donation. By doing so, they made the session very interactive and enlightening.

Besides being an informative session, the students felt it really introduced them to the fact that more awareness and participation in eye donation campaigns is required. This initiative as always, is aligned to the core philosophy, at DPS Warangal -inculcating social responsibility among its students with added motivation to contribute positively towards society.

Impact beyond the classroom

This event is part of the larger effort on the part of DPS Warangal to integrate social awareness into the curriculum. In a list of annual initiatives undertaken by the school, which are aimed at providing community service, and helping students understand more about their city, the eye donation camp is an eye-opener for students who are typically not exposed to such challenges.
