Diwali Holidays 2025: Schools Closed Starting Today, UP, Rajasthan & Bihar From October 20

The festive season is here, and schools across India are announcing their Diwali holiday schedules. In Rajasthan, both government and private schools will remain closed from today, October 14, 2025, allowing students to enjoy the celebrations with family and friends. Authorities have also issued reminders about firecracker safety and advised students to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines wherever necessary.

Meanwhile, schools in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar will begin their Diwali break from October 20, 2025, and reopen after the festival. The holiday period will generally last 3-5 days, depending on the school and local administration. Schools are encouraging students to use the break not only for festivities but also for rest, cultural activities, and educational enrichment, such as reading, creative writing, or learning new skills.

Many schools are also planning virtual Diwali programs, competitions, and cultural events prior to the holidays to keep students engaged and celebrate the festival in a safe and eco-friendly manner. Education departments in these states have reminded teachers to complete academic schedules before the break and ensure that students are updated on homework and pending assignments.

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated with enthusiasm across India. The festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. With school holidays aligned with Diwali celebrations, students get a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family, learn cultural values, and participate in community festivities.

Parents and guardians are advised to ensure safe celebrations, especially for younger children, by limiting the use of firecrackers and encouraging eco-friendly Diwali practices. Schools will resume classes post-Diwali, continuing the academic calendar for the 2025-26 session.
