DGFT Summer Internship 2025

What is DGFT & Why It Matters?

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is not just another bureaucratic office-it's the nerve center of India's international trade ecosystem. Functioning under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the DGFT plays a crucial role in shaping, regulating, and promoting India's exports and imports. Since the economic liberalization of 1991, it has transformed from a traditional regulatory body into a forward-looking institution that fosters proactive trade policies.

Introducing the DGFT Internship Programme: Learn by Doing

Designed for passionate students and researchers, the DGFT Internship Programme isn't your typical classroom-style internship. It's a real-world experience that puts you right in the middle of India's foreign trade policymaking machinery.

From June 1 to July 31, 2025, selected interns will work closely with top-level officers and trade experts, studying live policy challenges and contributing to real-time solutions. Imagine attending meetings where trade decisions are shaped or conducting research that could influence national trade policy-sounds exciting, right?

Interns aren't just silent spectators here. They're expected to bring fresh perspectives, analytical skills, and academic rigor to the table. Whether you're pursuing Public Policy, Economics, Law, Finance, or Management, your ideas and contributions matter.

What Makes This Internship Unique?

  • Hands-on Policy Experience: Learn how global trade rules are tailored to benefit national interests.
  • Mentorship from Experts: Collaborate with DGFT officials and dive deep into policy analysis.
  • Nationwide Recognition: A certificate from the DGFT isn't just a token-it's a badge of credibility in the world of government, research, and trade.
  • Real Impact: Your final report could play a role in future trade policy reviews.

Eligibility - Are You the Right Fit?

  • A minimum of 60% marks in your undergraduate program (in relevant fields).
  • Indian nationals only, including Indian students studying abroad.
  • Postgraduate students are given preference-but motivated undergraduates with a solid academic background are welcome to apply.
  • An evident interest in foreign trade, economic development, or government policy is a big plus.

Note: Interns must sign a Declaration of Secrecy due to the sensitive nature of government work-confidentiality is key.

Stipend & Deliverables

While the internship offers a monthly stipend of ₹10,000, it's more about the priceless exposure than the pay. Interns are expected to submit a well-researched final report on their project work, which will be evaluated by DGFT officials. Only those who meet the quality standards will receive a Certificate of Internship.

This report isn't just homework-it's your chance to showcase your understanding, critical thinking, and ability to apply theory to real-world trade issues.

Timeline to Remember

  • Application Deadline: 26th April 2025
  • Interviews: 2nd May to 13th May 2025
  • Final Selection Announcement: 15th May 2025
  • How to Apply: Through an official Google Form (link available on the DGFT website)
