Delhi University will soon be among the top 10 universities in the NIRF Ranking

Prof. Yogesh Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University (DU), expressed confidence that the university would soon break into the top 10 rankings of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Despite being ranked 11th in the NIRF 2023 rankings in the University category, Prof. Singh emphasized DU's continuous improvement in rankings.

Delhi University to break into NIRF top 10 soon

Responding to a query from Shiksha.com regarding DU's absence from the top 10 rankings despite its status as one of the most sought-after universities in India, Prof. Singh highlighted the university's progress. He noted that DU had achieved the top position in India in the QS World University Rankings for Sustainability, a significant leap from its fourth position last year.

Prof. Singh underscored DU's significant strides in rankings, particularly its elevation from fourth to first place this year. This accomplishment reflects DU's steadfast commitment to promoting sustainability initiatives across its academic and operational domains.

During a press conference held at DU, Prof. Singh emphasized the university's stature as a prominent multi-faculty institution catering to a diverse student community. He urged stakeholders to acknowledge DU's extensive scope and contributions to higher education when comparing its rankings with those of smaller premier institutions.

Regarding subject-wise rankings, DU ranks 210th in Arts and Humanities, 401-450th in Engineering and Technology, 379th in Life Sciences and Medicine, 345th in Natural Sciences, and 178th in Social Sciences and Management. In specific subject-wise rankings, DU's Development Studies is ranked 43rd, Anthropology 51-100th, English 101-150th, Languages 101-150th, and Sociology 101-150th.

Furthermore, Mahlawat highlighted that DU has improved its rank in nine subjects compared to last year. The rank remains unchanged in 11 subjects, while DU has secured a rank for the first time in four subjects.

Regarding admissions, the Vice Chancellor announced that the registration for postgraduate (PG) admissions at DU would commence on April 25. The registration deadline is May 25, following which the second phase of admissions will begin. After the conclusion of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate (UG) programs, UG admissions will be announced by mid-May.

Providing detailed information on admissions for the 2024-25 academic year, the Dean of Admissions, Haneet Gandhi, revealed that DU would offer a total of 13,500 seats for PG admissions (including NCWEB). Additionally, there will be 120 seats each for three Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programs, and 60 seats each for Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (BA LLB), and Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Laws (BBA LLB) courses. Notably, MA Hindu Studies, MA Public Health, MA Chinese Studies, MA Korean Studies, and Master in Fine Arts have been included in this year's PG admissions.
