Ghaziabad: DPS Indirapuram celebrated its Annual Day on 13th & 14th May, 2016 by staging the world famous Musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' based on the Biblical story of Joseph as recounted in the Book of Geneses. The spectacular musical extravaganza was directed by renowned theatre exponent Mr. George Pulinkala and his team.
The famous Kathak danseuse Padmashree Shovana Narayan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest on 13th May and the highly acclaimed film, television and theatre personality, Mrs. Sushma Seth was the honorable Chief Guest for the occasion on 14th May, 2016.
The Guests of honour for the occasion were Prof. B.P khandelwal, Member DPS Society and Mr. Hardayal Singh, Member Managing Committee DPS Indirapuram, on 13th and 14th May respectively. Other eminent dignitaries present were Mr. Abhishek Bansal, Member Managing Committee DPS Indirapuram, Ms. Zeenat Khader, Joint Secretary, DPS Society, Mrs. Nidhi Bansal and Dinesh Jain, Joint President UFLEX. The occasion was also graced by distinguished principals of reputed educational Institutes from Delhi and NCR.
The Principal Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed the guests into an enchanting realm of music and dance. She spoke highly about the achievements of the students and said that staging of a show of such stature, was a great learning experience for all and a testimony to the school's commitment not only to academics but to music, art and theatre. She further reiterated that the best outcome of such an exposure was that the children learnt teamwork, developed self confidence, honed their talents and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
To mark this occasion, a brochure on 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' was also released by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Shovana Narayan, the School Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai and the other distinguished guests present.
The school Principal presented the Annual Report of the school. A powerpoint presentation highlighting the school's achievements was also screened. The school was resplendent with artefacts, murals and curios, from the Egyptian era suitably recreating the biblical setting of the play. The magnificent décor with Sphinx and hieroglyphics, the laser lights, the breath taking visuals, colourful costumes, grand theatrical effects and the beautifully choreographed series of dances added magic to the ambience.
The auditorium came alive with more than 600 students in this Mega Show. Right from the prologue to the last scene, it was mesmerizing and left the audience spell bound. The timeless saga of Joseph and his brothers spoke of all human emotions that come to mind - of jealousy, of love, of forgiveness, of evil design, of aspirations and dreams and ultimately, of the 'triumph of good over evil' - the theme of universal brotherhood. The entire auditorium reverberated with the energy and superb theatrics of the actors.
In her address, the Chief Guest Mrs. Shovana Narayana congratulated the school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai, the Director of the play, Mr. George Pulinkala and the young performers for making the show a grand success. She also appreciated the subtle message of love and forgiveness that the play beautifully brought forth. The honorable Chief Guest on 14th May, 2016, Mrs. Sushma Seth also congratulated the participants for the stupendous show and wished the best for all future endeavors.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the school Vice-Principal, Mrs. Sangeeta Hajela.
