The Directorate of Education in Delhi has introduced a well-defined admission timeline for entry-level classes-Nursery, Pre-primary, and Class 1-in private unaided recognized schools for the 2025-2026 school year.

Starting November 28, 2024, these admissions cover only open seats, while separate procedures will apply for categories like Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Disadvantaged Groups (DG), and Children with Special Needs (CWSN). This initiative is geared toward creating a seamless, fair experience for Delhi's parents and young learners.
To maintain transparency, all schools are required to upload their admission criteria and point system by November 25, 2024. These criteria may include factors like proximity to the school, sibling attendance, and alumni status of the parents. By displaying these details on websites and notice boards, schools ensure parents understand how their applications will be evaluated, promoting clarity and fairness.
To ensure children are enrolled in the appropriate class, the Directorate has specified age requirements: three years for Nursery, four years for Pre-primary (KG), and five years for Class 1, as of March 31, 2025. A flexible 30-day age relaxation is also permitted, allowing schools to accommodate individual needs.
The registration fee is capped at a nominal Rs. 25, and buying the school prospectus is entirely optional, ensuring accessibility for families.
Aligning with the Right to Education Act, 25% of seats are reserved for students from EWS, DG, and CWSN categories, underscoring the government's commitment to inclusivity and equal access to quality education. This policy ensures that every child, irrespective of background, has the opportunity to attend a reputable school in Delhi.
