Cyclone Jawad Impact: In the wake of Cyclone Jawad, a tropical cyclone, expected to make landfall in several regions of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, schools and educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been shut down to prevent any untoward eventuality.

Cyclone Jawad, which began on December 3 in the Bay of Bengal through a low-lying depression is expected turn severe on reaching Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in the wake of which the schools have been asked to shut.
"At 1730 IST of 3rd Dec the CYCLONIC STORM 'JAWAD' centered about 300 km south southeast of Vishakhapatnam and 480 km south southwest of Puri. To move north northwestwards till 4th Dec Morning and then recurve north northeastwards reaching near Puri coast around 5th december noon," India Meteorological Department had tweeted issuing a red warning for districts in Andhra and Odisha.
64 Teams National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed and pressed across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Odisha Schools Shut in 19 Districts
The Odisha government has shut down schools - government, aided and unaided, in 19 districts of the state comprising of Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Kendrapara, Khordha, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, and Rayagada owing to likely Cyclone Jawad impact.
The Odisha School and Mass Education Department in a notice issued said, the all government schools, aided and private affiliated with the department in 19 districts of Odisha mentioned above will be closed on December 4 in view of cyclone Jawad.
"There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in all the above districts or in isolated places. The students should not come to school. However, if there is any exam schedule planned earlier, it may be conducted with utmost care under the supervision of the District administration," the order from the School and Mass Education Department said.
UGC NET Exam Postponed In Andhra And Odisha
The UGC NET to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been postponed to December 5 in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
"Due to the red alert issued in the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for cyclone JAWAD for 4 December 2021, UGC-NET December 2020 and June 2021 Examination to be held on 5 December, 2021 has been rescheduled, an NTA notice said.
