Colleges seek disaffiliation from UPTU

13 of the colleges which are affiliated with the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) have informed the University that they wish to be disaffiliated from it.

The University has demanded a clarification from these colleges. The college officials have maintained that the reason for this is that they do not have a lot of students applying for their courses.

But the University officials claim that there maybe other reasons like the colleges wanting to become Universities themselevs. They say that most of these private colleges open multiple branches. When they have formed a group of institutions, they approach the state government to get permission to get upgraded to private University status.

The University also feels that some of these colleges want to start new programmes, for which the current programmes need to be closed.

The colleges which have requested for a disaffiliation are in various places like Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Greater Noida, Agra, Meerut, Saharanpur and Lucknow.
