The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened the online application process for Class 10 and Class 12 private candidates who wish to appear for the 2026-27 board examinations. Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official CBSE website, cbse.gov.in.

The application window has opened on October 8, 2026. Candidates can submit their forms and pay the prescribed examination fee under the normal application window until October 23, 2026. Those who miss the regular deadline will get another opportunity to apply from October 24 to October 30, 2026, by paying the applicable late fee.
The CBSE private candidate examinations are expected to be conducted during February, March and April 2027. Candidates are advised to carefully check their eligibility, enter accurate details and complete the fee payment within the specified deadline.
The application facility is available to specified categories of private candidates. These include students who were declared essential repeaters in CBSE board examinations conducted during the last six years, from 2021 to 2026.
Students who were placed in the compartment category in the CBSE 2026 main examination or supplementary/second chance examination can also apply, subject to the applicable rules.
In addition, candidates who qualified in the 2025-26 board examinations and want to improve their performance in one or more subjects can submit applications under the improvement category.
Candidates should check the detailed CBSE instructions before applying to ensure that they fall under an eligible category.
| Event | Date |

| Normal application window | October 8 to 23, 2026 |
| Last application window | October 24 to 30, 2026 |

CBSE has stated that applications and fee payments will be accepted only through online mode. Candidates can use Net Banking, Debit Card or Credit Card, including national and international cards where applicable.
The examination fee varies according to the candidate's country and is charged on a per-subject basis.
| Candidates Category | Examination Fee |
| India | ₹320 per subject |
| Nepal | ₹1,100 per subject |
| Other countries | ₹2,200 per subject |
Candidates who apply during the late application period will have to pay a late fee of ₹2,000 per candidate, in addition to the prescribed examination fee.
Therefore, candidates should complete both the application submission and fee payment before the regular deadline to avoid additional charges.
For students who appeared for the CBSE Board Examinations in 2026, certain details will be automatically generated in the online application system and displayed to the applicant.
Candidates who appeared for the board examinations between 2021 and 2025, however, will need to enter details such as their roll number and year of passing while completing the application.
Students should verify all information carefully before submitting the form. Incorrect details can result in rejection of the application.
CBSE has also warned candidates against providing false information or submitting incorrect documents. If a candidate makes incorrect entries, provides a false statement or submits a false document, the application may be rejected and the fee paid may be forfeited. The candidate may also be dealt with under the applicable rules concerning unfair practices.
Candidates should remember that merely completing the online application is not sufficient. The prescribed examination fee must also be successfully paid within the applicable deadline.
CBSE has specifically noted that some candidates complete the online form but fail to make the required fee payment. Such applications will not be considered complete, and failure to pay the prescribed fee within the deadline can lead to rejection of the application.
Candidates are therefore advised to check the payment status after completing the transaction and retain the payment confirmation and application details for future reference.
Candidates can follow these steps to submit their applications:
1. Visit the official CBSE website at cbse.gov.in.
2. Go to the section for private candidate examination applications.
3. Select the relevant Class 10 or Class 12 application option.
4. Enter the required personal, academic and examination details.
5. Verify the details, including roll number and year of examination, wherever applicable.
6. Select the subjects for which the examination is being taken.
7. Upload the required information or documents, if applicable.
8. Pay the prescribed examination fee through the available online payment modes.
9. Check the application and payment details carefully.
10. Submit the form and save the confirmation page or payment receipt for future reference.
Candidates should complete the process within the prescribed timeline and avoid waiting until the final day. They should also ensure that the information entered in the application matches their official academic records.
