Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that the state government will build 4,000 modern schools by 2028.
"With the blessings of the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Assam is embarking on the state's largest-ever effort to build schools." By 2028, 4,000 modern schools will be built, which equates to two new schools being built every day for the following five years. "I chaired a meeting today to review progress," CM Sarma wrote on the social networking platform X.

The chief minister presided over the review meeting, which was attended by education minister Ranoj Pegu, registered contractors, empanelled architects, and PWD engineers. The purpose of the meeting was to examine the progress of the state's construction of 126 new secondary schools under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) style of contract. According to Minister Pegu, all 4,000 schools would be built under the EPC contract process.
He stated on platform X that the EPC contract process was used to quickly develop around 4,000 secondary schools in phases.
