BU to introduce PG course in German and Spanish

Department of Foreign Languages, Bangalore University is set to introduce Postgraduate (PG) / Master Degree course in German and Spanish from the next academic year 2014-15.

According to the Coordinator of Department of Foreign Languages, Jyoti Venkatesh, there is a huge demand for these two courses, and proposal to introduce has been submitted to the Vice-Chancellor of BU.

Speaking to the reporters on the 4th International Languages Fair held on 26th January 2014. There is a need for translators and interpreters in foreign companies.

At present BU offers courses in 13 languages, and also offers courses in French and Japanese. These new courses are likely to be introduced between March and August 2014.

Former Chairperson of the Department of Languages, K Eresi said, "The proposal to start the courses has been made because these languages are widely sought after."

"We have asked for funds under the Rashtriya Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) for these courses. We will require six faculty members for each course besides infrastructure in the form of equipment, books and so on," he said.

The University has asked University of Grants Commission (UGC) to provide some funds, hire one professor, two associate and three assistant professors for each course.

"We are expecting around 1 crore under RUSA. We will try to rope in experts from Delhi and Hyderabad for these courses," he said.
