'Atomic energy, space technology depts to be started at CUJ'

Jammu, May 11: Three major departments of Space Technology, Atomic Energy and Earth Sciences will soon be started at the Central University of Jammu (CUJ), Union Minister Jitendra Singh said today.

"These three departments are not available to students in the country in a major way. We will start them from here (CUJ) so that students of the region have an alternative," Singh said during a visit to the CUJ campus in Vijaypur here.

The Minister of State in the PMO also batted strongly for starting this year's session at the campus which is still under-construction.

"Several blocks of the university have been completed. We will sit with the university's Vice Chancellor and management to see how the campus can be activated soon," he said.

"CUJ should be prime seat of learning and students from outside the country should come and study here. Jammu should be known for quality education that CUJ provides.

"It is a dream that this area becomes known across the country for this university. Other departments would be made functional in routine but apart from them, some other departments would be run on a fast-track basis as these branches of learning would not be there in other central universities," he said.
