The Assam government has opened the application process for scholarships tailored for scheduled tribe (ST) students in the state for the academic year 2024-25. These scholarships, designed to support both pre-matric and post-matric students, are exclusively available to ST students residing in Assam.

Eligible students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in. To qualify, students must be enrolled in government, government-aided, or government-recognized institutions that have valid U-DISE, AISHE, or NCVT codes.
Key Dates
For pre-matric scholarships (applicable to students in Class IX and X), the deadline for applications is August 31, 2024. Post-matric scholarship applications must be submitted by October 31, 2024. It's important to note that all applicants must first register with the NSP's One-Time Registration (OTR) system before applying.
Ranoj Pegu, Assam's Education Minister, announced this opportunity on social media, urging eligible students to apply before the deadlines. The Minister emphasized the importance of these scholarships in alleviating financial burdens for ST students and enabling them to continue their education.
Eligibility Criteria
For both pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, the annual family income of applicants should not exceed ₹2.50 lakh. In addition to completing the application, students are required to upload an income certificate issued by a revenue or circle officer, a caste certificate from the district commissioner, a notarized affidavit, and details of a valid bank account in the student's name.
Once applications are submitted, they must be verified by the Institute's nodal officer. For pre-matric scholarships, verification needs to be completed by September 15, while post-matric applications should be verified by November 15.
Purpose of the Initiative
This scholarship program is a significant initiative by the Assam government aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the educational progress of ST students in the state. By providing this financial support, the government seeks to empower these students to pursue their studies and achieve their academic goals.
