The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has cancelled Class 11 examinations for the academic year 2020-2021. It has decided to promote all the students without board examinations in view of the rising COVID-19 pandemic situation. Earlier, it has postponed the Assam Higher Secondary first year examination scheduled to be held from May 4 which has now been cancelled. The government has also deferred the Class 10th (HSLC) and Class 12th (Higher Secondary) board exams scheduled in May.

MyGov Assam tweeted, "Owing to the current COVID-19 pandemic, students of Higher Secondary 1st Year, 2021 have been directly promoted to HS 2nd Year."
The official notice reads, "Due to prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the higher secondary first-year examination, 2021 scheduled to be held from May 4, 2021, which was postponed has now been cancelled and all the students who have filed up online applications for the same year are hereby declared to have been promoted to the HS 2nd year class for the academic session 2021-22."
Earlier, the Assam Government has postponed the Class 10th and Class 12th board exams scheduled to begin from May 11 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the country. It has announced that the revised schedule of Classes 10 and 12 shall be announced after consultation with the Health Department of state.
