Arunachal Pradesh to get its first govt engineering college

Itanagar, April 2: The deck has been cleared for setting up of the first government engineering college in Arunachal Pradesh with the union HRD ministry approving establishment of the college at Toru in Papum Pare district to help provide technical education.

The ministry has informed the state government about its approval for setting up the college besides sanctioning for upgradation of Dera Natung College here and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat to model degree colleges under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), state Education Minister Tapang Taloh said in a statement today.

“The first installment of the grants has already been earmarked by the ministry,” Taloh said. “

Establishing a government engineering college in the state has been a long felt demand of people and I am glad that our efforts bore fruits,” Taloh said in the statement and hoped that the upcoming institute would cater to the technical educational needs of the students of all categories.

“Thousands of students from the state go out of the state every year for pursuing higher and technical education which involves huge expenditure”, the education minister said.

“The new engineering college will not only facilitate the students to get engineering degrees with meager financial involvement but also reduce economic burdens of poor parents. The foundation stone for the college would be laid by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at Toru on April 15 next.
