Pune: Applications are invited by the state education department, Maharashtra, to set up self-financed English medium schools across the state.
Education commissioner, S. Chockalingam, said, "We are calling for applications from anyone interested in setting up a new English medium school or upgrading an existing school. Applications are to be submitted between July 1 and 31. We will ensure that the entire process of registration is transparent; all eligible applications will be passed."
He added, the details with respect to the registration process are available at www.sfc.maharashtra.gov.in
Once the process of registration is done, the school may apply for affiliation from any board of education. If the school wants to be affiliated to the CBSE or ICSE boards, it must be approved by the government, he said.
He added, that there is a demand for English medium schools across the state, particularly in the urban areas. Mumbai and Pune in particular house people from middle class who are facing shortage of such schools.
