AIPGMEE scores for Karnataka PG Medical Courses admission from 2015

Karnataka accepts AIPGMEE for PG Medical courses

Karnataka state government has agreed to accept the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Exam (AIPGMEE) scores for admission to Postgraduate Medical courses from the academic year 2015-16.

AIPGMEE scores accepted for both state and national seats quota. Karnataka will be the 11th state for accepting the AIPGMEE scores.

State Medical Education Secretary Rashmi V confirmed the news and said, the state government initially wanted to implement it from this academic year 2014-15. However the dates for exam is over now, so it will be implemented from next year.

Minister of State for Medical Education, Sharanprakash R Patil said, "For AIPGMEE 2014, Karnataka along with Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal, have not consented to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) for utilising the merit list of the AIPGMEE 2014 for admission to their 50% state quota M.D, M.S and PG diploma seats."

Every year Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will be conducting the PG entrance exam for admission to Medical courses.

From 2015, instead of RGUHS, the NBE will be conducting the AIPGMEE exam for admission to state quota seats.

"AIPGMEE 2015 exam will be conducted online. The counselling for filling the state quota seats will be conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which will also be done online," Rashmi said.

Dr. Patil also said that this year, only students with 10 years' domicile would be eligible for the NBE-administered PG test for the 50% state quota.

"Earlier, students who had completed their MBBS in Karnataka were also eligible. This year, we have ensured that all the State quota seats go to students from Karnataka," he said.

Even for the All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT), state has not consented to using scores for Undergraduate Medical courses, which is scheduled to take place on 04th May 2014.

For this year, Karnataka state is using Common Entrance Test (CET 2014) scores for admission to UG Medical courses MBBS, BDS admissions.

KEA, Bangalore had already announced the dates for CET 2014.

Dr. Patil said, "The decision to limit using the national test only to PG admissions and not UG was taken keeping in mind the interest of students, as those passing out of second PUC would find it difficult to adapt to the AIPMT."

"These are competitive exams; parents and students would have got jittery. But for PG students it will not be that difficult. This year's exam will be of a different level, but it will definitely be a better exam," he said.
