USPs of the programme: The MSc Finance and Econometrics degree, taught under the School of Social Sciences at the UK-based University of Southampton, is one of the few programmes in the UK to offer specialist training in advanced econometric techniques and their application to finance.

 

The programme is designed for students with a particular interest in the more quantitative aspects of the subject. It combines rigorous academic standards with real-world practical insights, thereby enhancing the students' knowledge and career prospects. Students pursuing the course will be taught by experts and will have access to all the state-of-art facilities that one would expect from one of the world's top 100 universities.

The postgraduate programme involves nine months of taught modules followed by three summer months of supervised research for a Masters' dissertation. The course begins with an intensive two-week module on Preliminary Mathematics and Statistics designed to ensure that students have the quantitative skills necessary to successfully undertake the core modules.

Other key modules include Economic Analysis, Econometrics I, Corporate Finance, Financial Economics & Asset Pricing, Empirical Finance, Time Series Econometrics, and Panel Data &Micro econometrics, with optional modules in Labour Economics, Industrial Economics, International Trade, Economic Policy in Development as well as Experimental Economics.

All the modules are taught using a variety of methods, including lectures, seminars, research workshops, group or project work.

Course Duration: 1 year(Full-time) or 2 years (Part-time)

Career Prospects for Course Graduates: The programme gives graduates an opportunity to pursue their career in diverse fields such as research, business, education, finance, etc. and makes them eligible of becoming economic or finance consultants, professors, research analysts with research institutions, banks, government as well as international organizations.

Eligibility Criteria: Applications from students who have, or expect to have, a good undergraduate degree in Economics (upper second-class or higher) are welcome. Strong candidates from related fields will also be considered. All applicants should have academic background in quantitative methods, such as Mathematics, Statistics or Econometrics. The English language requirements include an overall 6.5 IELTS score with at least 5.5 in each component including reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Course Fee: £16800

Scholarships: Scholarships of £3,000 and £5,000 are offered to students enrolled under the MSc programmes. These scholarships will be in the form of a tuition fee reduction.
