Presently, there are sixteen IIT's across India. The admissions to the undergraduate programmes for the academic year 2014-15 for all Indian and foreign nationals at these institutions are conducted through the JEE Advanced 2014 entrance exam.
In the mean time, students have to be prepared for counselling / seat selection process.
Students have to take part in counselling through internet (online counselling). They have to lock the seats online.
The seat allotment process will begin from 01st July (tentative).
Before counselling, candidates must have to know the number of seats that are available in IITs and ISM Dhanbad.
A total of 9,784 seats are available in IITs and ISM Dhanbad for admission to engineering / technology programmes.
According to the notification released on JEE Advanced website, the seats which are available in each IITs and ISM Dhanbad are;

- IIT Madras - 838 seats
- IIT Gandhinagar - 150 seats
- IIT Patna - 200 seats
- IIT Roorkee - 1,065 seats
- IIT Ropar - 120 seats
- IIT (BHU) Varanasi - 1,090 seats
- IIT Guwahati - 660 seats
- ISM Dhanbad - 962 seats
