"SEVIS by the Numbers," a quarterly report of international students studying in the United States, was released Tuesday by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
According to the reports, 70% of the students studying engineering programmes in US are from India and China.
As of July 8, 2014, 966,333 international students had enrolled in nearly 9,000 US schools. 75% are from Asia.
The top 10 countries for international students in US are from China, India, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Mexico and Brazil.
The 5 universities with most sought-after international students are;
- The University of Southern California
- Purdue University
- University of Illinois
- New York University
- Columbia University
A total of 350,000 students pursued STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). 85% international students studying STEM coursework are from Asia. 70% international students studying engineering are from China and India.
Around 270,596 international students from China studying in the United States. The majority of these students studied in California, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Illinois.
