6th convocation at Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University

Nagpur: Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) conducted its 6th convocation to present degrees to students in the academic year 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall on Wednesday.

Gurubachan Singh, Chairman of Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) was the Chief Guest. Madukarraoji Chavan, Pro-Chancellor of the University and Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Maharashtra government presided over the proceedings of the convocation. MAFSU's Vice-Chancellor AK Misra had briefed about the events to the reporters earlier.

Misra said while listing the achievements of the University that it is active in certain high science projects in research and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) has granted Rs 8.18 core for research and other developmental activities.

785 degrees in total were conferred this year. Meritorious performances received gold and silver medals from the University. 32 medals in total which included 24 gold and 8 silver medals were instituted for outstanding academic performances in the fields of veterinary alternative medicine, while 1 gold medal was awarded to a rural girl student who topped the B. Tech (DT). A total of 64 medals were given in this 6th convocation as the degrees were being conferred on the students of two academic years 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.

The number of girl students enrolling and graduating in Veterinary, Dairy and Fishery has been on an increase over the years. 30% degrees were conferred on girls.
