New placement cell will be set by IGNOU

Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar has been chosen by IGNOU, to set up its new placement cell. The regional director of Bhubaneswar's center, SK Tripathy, on the celebration of 28th foundation day of IGNOU on Tuesday says "we have central placement cell in New Delhi, where students have to register. We will now have regional placement center for the benefit of local students."

Apart from opening the new placement cell, the center will also launch a new course, PG in urban planning and development (PGDUPL), which will help them to meet the demand of manpower in construction field. "After competing the course, students can be engaged in construction sectors like Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Real Estate, Road and Building Works and so on," Thripathi added further.

Bhubaneswar regional center also opened sub-centers at Phulbani offering various vocational courses for tribal youth of five districts, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Balangir, and Sonepur.

Tripathi further stated "Customised local vocational courses like bee keeping, mushroom cultivation, motorcycle repairing, beautician and weaving will be offered at sub-regional center in Phulbani from 14th January."

In Odisha IGNOU has 101 study centers, 22,000 students are studying in these centers in both certificate and professional courses. "We are also offering courses like certificate in human trafficking, which is beneficial for police and prison officers. Besides, IGNOU is also training government officers in disaster management in association with National Disaster Management Authority," says, S Mohanty, deputy director of IGNOU, Bhubaneswar.
