The placement procedure of IIT Kharagpur will start in few days. But the two big giants, Facebook and Twitter drew the curtains on the placement procedure as they kept themselves away from Kharagpur's campus.
Both these social media mammoths will not participate in this year's placement procedure. The administration, however, is putting up a brave face.
The recruitment cell of IIT Kharagpur is not worried about Twitter as the site never hired any student from Kharagpur's campus, it is the Facebook injury which is hurting them a lot. The social media website, last year, hired four students from IIT Kharagpur on a high package. Its absence this year will certainly going to add to IIT's agony.
The rest of the companies have confirmed their participation. According to IIT Gurus, this year's placement graph will be lower than that of last year, and the major reason behind the decline will be the economic crunch.
Another big name Rio Tinto, the mining major from Australia, will not going to turn up for the campus placement this year in IIT Kgp, as the company has wrapped up its Indian operations after completing the contract here. Mitsubishi has also decided to turn its back on the campus placement this year.
"Recruiters are likely to hire fewer candidates this time, though they haven't clearly mentioned this. Since most other major recruiters are coming. I don't think we should panic too much," says Sudhir Barai, faculty member in charge of placements.
