The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated its 28th Foundation Day yesterday, 19th November, 2013. The Headquarters at New Delhi and the Regional Centers spread across the country planned a number of cultural events, academic activities and competitive events on the occasion.
The Foundation Day function began with floral homage to Mrs. Indira Gandhi by the Vice Chancellor and staff of the University. Thereafter new IGNOU flag was unfurled and hoisted by the VC in the presence of the staff of the University.
The Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Mr. Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Skill Development Corporation on the topic "Open Education and Skills: India the Next Superpower".
The function started with the welcome address by Prof. M.Aslam, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU and concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. SVS Chaudhary, Registrar (Admn), IGNOU.
On this occasion an exhibition was organised by Regional Services Division of IGNOU and inaugurated by VC. It included a "Creativity Corner" which displayed creative items prepared by employees, their spouses and children. A "Children's Corner" was dedicated towards display of items prepared by children. Competition among children was arranged for which prizes were distributed on Foundation Day. A stall where books authored by employees and electronic media based items prepared by them were on display. Apart from above, there were two stalls titled "Distinguished Learners of IGNOU" and "May I Help You".
There was display of posters by Schools/Divisions/Centres and the Regional Centres. There were 5 stalls for some of the study centres in the NCR. In addition, one stall each for Construction & Maintenance Division, Horticulture Cell, Computer Division, Electronic Media Production Centre and Regional Services Division of IGNOU were displayed.
A cultural programme was organised by Specially abled children. The Lecture was telecast live and viewed at all the Regional Centers.
