It's raining job offers at IIT Kharagpur

It seems like IIT Kharagpur students are having a kick start to their career, almost 110 final-year students are already hired by top companies and rest others also have good job offers in their kitty.

The management of the institute is particularly happy with a 100% growth in per-placement offer figures. In the year 2011, the pre-placement figures were 54 and they just got doubled this year.

The highest package, offered to a student by Google US, stands at around Rs 93 Lakh. At least 25 global majors have made a beeline for the campus prior to the placement season to ensure that all students are available. Among firms that vied for prospective employees are Google US, Deutsche Bank, Microsoft, unilever, Transoceans and Samsung. There were some favorite departments like electronics, computer science, IT and in core engineering departments mechanical, civil and electrical were the hot favorites among the students.

This year, 2,418 students will be going for placement as against 1,900 last year, according to the institute's placement office.

"Our students have managed to bag plum jobs even before the placement season started. This once again proved that IIT Kharagpur is on the top of corporate recruiters' minds. We hope to continue the trend through the placement season," says PP Chakraborty, director IIT Kharagpur.
